I'm a Special Effects Designer and a Maker of mechanical devices.
I've been working with and enabling organisations to develop unusual physical assets for over 30 years.
I've built the mechanical FX rigs behind a great many commercials for companies including Nike, Adidas, Grolsch and the BBC to name a few but also blockbuster movies, including Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Jurassic World and Star Wars.
I've spent most of my working life creating tangible objects that move.
I have been lucky enough to combine my wonder of mechanisms and passion for design by specialising in mechanical rig design, animatronic characters and props.
Having worked across many different categories in the effects industry. And on many aspects of the design and fabrication processes, I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience across mechanical design, engineering, electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics. I can design, build and operate, and also commission, maintain, diagnose faults and fix as required.
"I believe there's always a solution.. That with the right attitude, and the right tools, you really can make anything you want".
Ever since I was a kid I've always loved taking things apart and figuring out how they work, what makes them tick. I remember taking apart watches, cameras, motorbikes, anything remotely mechanical in fact.
At first I wasn't much good at getting things back together and working again. But after a while I figured that out and then found I had a kind of instinct for how things worked and could fix all sorts of things if they stopped working.
I also started getting into designing things too. I vividly remember one time as a kid, while my friends were playing football. I sat on the grass with a pad and pencil, designing a car I was planning to make.
I design strange and unique products. I do a lot of R&D, make one-off pieces, and find interesting ways to make ordinary objects do extraordinary things. I create mechanical rigs to manipulate objects in space. As well as animatronic creatures, puppets and props of all kinds. I also like to build unusual robotic devices that fly, walk, crawl or roll around in fully controlled or semi autonomous ways. From a droid for Star Wars to a semi autonomous robot that can build a digital map of the insides of tubes.
